About Skip

SKIP MONTELLO is a sport fishing charter captain, photographer and outdoor writer working and living in Rockport (Cape Ann) Massachusetts. His interest in photography developed during his career at the Polaroid Corporation. He spent more than 30 years at Polaroid as a photographic scientist, engineer and technology leader. Over the years he has moved from film based media to digital. His current photography interests are varied but tend toward seascapes, landscapes and nature. Skip's photographic career became self evident after years at the Polaroid Corporation as a photographic scientist, engineer and technology leader. His ability to "see" and compose is based on perspectives - angles, distance, perch, light color, patterns, reflections and image space. Subjects are based on natural experiences of the environment, coupled with Skip's own knowledge of the sky, earth and sea. Weather patterns, dew points, air temperatures, winds, sunrise or sundown, provide the pallet from which he creates a backdrop to a "sometimes serendipity" choice of focal point. "What I see is through the camera lens (and sometimes in my mind's eye) is what I strive to reproduce in the final image". Skip is an exhibiting photography member of the Rockport Art Association, Newburyport Art Association, Rocky Neck Art Colony and seArts.
