This was a robust program that ran for two years (2007-2008) to showcase independent films with an educational element that involved either a producer or expert on the film’s subject matter. Sometimes, even a panel of several experts or film-makers.
2007 was hosted by Sarah Green, a Gloucester resident known internationally for her wonderfully deep and thoughtful work.
A recent article from the Sarasota Film Festival describes Sarah in this way, Green has been responsible for guiding some of the most notable independent films produced over the past two decades – including the Academy Award-winning “Frida,” the Sundance Grand Jury winner “Girlfight” and Terrance Malick’s epic adventure, “The New World.”
In addition to Malick, with whom she is currently finishing two projects — “The Tree of Life,” with Brad Pitt and Sean Penn, due out in May, and “Untitled Love Story,” now in post-production — Green has also worked with John Sayles, David Mamet and Julie Taymore, among others.
In 2007 the following films were shown at Gloucester Cinema:
2008 – the second year was run by Anne Robinson, seARTS Board member and former program manager for PBS. These films were shown at both the Gloucester Cinema and the Gloucester Stage Company.
