About Patricia McCarthy
Pat is a Cape Ann artist and resident. She was born in New Jersey and was introduced to painting at an early age by her Irish grandmother. Most of her adult life has been spent in Massachusetts and Vermont.
She holds undergraduate degrees from Duke University in North Carolina and Emmanuel College in Boston and a masters degree from Clark University, Worcester, MA. Throughout her career in healthcare she continued to paint and expand her art education and has been fortunate to have studied for several years with renowned Gloucester artists David P. Curtis and Rockport artist, Caleb Stone. She frequently travels to Ireland, Italy and England to paint with family and fellow artists.
Pat is both a studio and “en plein air” painter. Oil paint is her medium of choice and landscapes, occasionally with buildings, people, animals or even lively seagulls incorporated, are favorite subjects. Her strong education in the sciences has lead to her more realistic style while painting out of doors has provided license to be paint more
freely and to appreciate movement and change and how these contribute to a more dynamic and interesting painting.
The harbors, boats, buildings and landscapes both here and abroad provide inspiration and ready subjects for her paintings and inspire those who see her work to discover the world’s color and beauty. Her work has been included in juried exhibitions both regional and national.
Pat is a juried artist member of:
Rockport Art Association and Museum (Rockport, MA)
Marblehead Art Association (Marblehead, MA)
Bryan Memorial Gallery (Jeffersonville, VT)
North Shore Art Association (Gloucester, MA)
National Association of Women in Art (NY and MA Chapters)
