Gabrielle Barzaghi: “Perfect World” Exhibit
June 10 - July 9
Trident Gallery is very pleased to present Perfect World, an exhibition of new drawings by Gabrielle Barzaghi. Perfect World is the second solo exhibition of Barzaghi’s drawings at Trident Gallery and will be on view June 10 – July 9, 2017. Gallery hours are Friday and Saturday 10–7; Sunday and Monday 10–5; Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday 12–5. The gallery will host an Opening Reception for the artist on Saturday, June 10, 5–7pm. The following weekend, on Saturday, June 17, at 2pm, the gallery will host a Conversation with Gabrielle Barzaghi about her artistic process and recent work.
Gabrielle Barzaghi turns lived experience into drawings. Following the discovery of a story, object, scene, or work of art which captures her imagination, she feels compelled to make a drawing. The drawing once begun becomes a source of further discoveries, a path she follows, receptive to the vines of memories, the influences of the moment, and the fruit of many years of looking and drawing. Her best drawings are inspired, surprising, unequivocally original works of art, the results of a seasoned artistic process remarkable for its openness to risks, and for the depth of the beauty at which it arrives. Ten new drawings and a major new work, a cycle of 15 drawings, will be on view and affirm the artist’s power to embrace complexity with aesthetic harmony, to portray the entanglement of beauty and understanding.
Gabrielle Barzaghi grew up in Rhode Island and graduated from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. After living and working in Boston’s artists’ lofts, she moved to Gloucester in the mid-1990s. She taught drawing at the New England School of Art and Design at Suffolk University for over thirty years and now works full time in her studio adjacent to Dogtown. Her work has been shown at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; the Currier Museum; the Fuller Museum; and it is in the permanent collections of the Cape Ann Museum and the deCordova Museum.
Trident Gallery shows beautiful and intelligent contemporary art in all mediums, emphasizing the work of artists continuing Gloucester’s rich legacy as a center for new American Art. Gallery Director Dr. Matthew Swift curates and produces the exhibitions, drawing on over twenty years of multi-disciplinary scholarship, teaching, and creative exploration.
The Trident Live Art Series presents performances by seasoned professionals showing experimental and collaborative work in the intimate salon setting of the gallery. Live Art Series Director Sarah Slifer Swift curates and produces the performances, drawing on over twenty years of experience in the United States and abroad as a dance artist, choreographer, and producer.
